Spring Convention – Colchester April 20th – 21st 2024

Location: The Minories / Firstsite Colchester: 74 High Street, Colchester, CO1 1UE

This year we return to the historic city of Colchester where the BOS Spring convention will be held alongside the Convention For Creators. Dozens of top origami creators from around the world will hold their creators convention, then join us for folding classes at the BOS Spring Convention. For this reason we have no named “special guests” – instead there is a unique opportunity to meet a much wider group of creators, learn from them and see a very special exhibition of the world’s best origami.

With the convention taking place in the building which houses our library, there will also be an opportunity to see some of the treasures from the archives which will be on display alongside rare book sales & auctions, this may also be a last chance to get your hands on back issue booklets, magazines and convention packs which will be available. This is all in addition to the usual activities of folding classes, supplies, novelty competition, an exhibition review, late night informal folding and more!

The Convention is now fully booked!  If you have booked and need to contact us, please email

In 2024 we will hold our Autumn Convention in Edinburgh (23 to 25 August), with special guests Francesco Mancini and Tetsuya Gotani. Watch this space for more information and booking details.

Meeting other folders is a great experience, and one of the best places to do it is at a convention. During the Covid 19 Pandemic we held virtual conventions, but now we have restarted our 2 day residential weekend events. These conventions are heaven for folders everywhere! New members are made especially welcome, as are children and “non-folding” partners. Our experience of virtual events has allowed us to look at new ways to offer such events.

Here is a list of our previous conventions.

Inevitably, the folding appetites of many people are not satisfied entirely by two conventions a year, so the we also offer local meetings, called “mini-meetings”, generally once a month. These meetings are mostly informal with about a dozen people attending on average.

Folds are taught, stories exchanged and a good time is had by all. Or bring along any new (or old!) books you have found, any folds you are struggling with, any origami memorabilia and show them to other local members.

Details are shown in our members area, but meetings take place in Birmingham,  Brighton & Hove, Bristol, Bury St  Edmunds,  Gloucester, London, Manchester, the North East, Nottingham, Oxford, Scotland, Sheffield, Slough and Yor
