Simple model of the week – Sanbo box

The Sanbo is a traditional Japanese box.

This model is easy to make, with a very lovely folding sequence. Ideal for folders from beginners to experts, and once you’ve learnt the sequence, a great model for mindful folding.

You can make it by following the diagrams here.

As with many models, its creator is unknown.  However, we know this model has been passed down for hundreds of years because we see it depicted in Japanese art.

Find out more about the history of this model (and many others) on Dave Mitchell’s origami heaven website. David Mitchell’s Origami Heaven – History – The Sanbo and the Sanbo On Legs
