#Gomodular day 6: I-Squash-ahedron by Dave Brill

Diagrams for this model are here

There is a special class of modular origami that is also an action model. This design by Dave Brill expands and contracts when you push and pull it! The mechanism works because the connections between the modules are inside the model, rather than on the surface of the shape.

We love the simplicity of the idea. Just 6 units produce a cuboctahedron in the “squashed” position, then all the parts move together when you play with the model.  Take care the first couple of times you expand and squash your model, to get the paper used to the movement.

Taking it Further:

Dave has made many action modulars, check out the diagrams page on his website to find more and look for “toys and working origami.”
